ENGR-111 Introduction to Engineering

Homework 2: Career Numbers

Pick one engineering discipline you are considering. It does not have to be the one you end up in.

Using the Bureau of Labor Statistics at bls.gov, find and report:

  1. Median annual pay for that discipline
  2. Projected job growth over the next ten years
  3. Roughly how many people work in that field in Oregon

The first two are in the Occupational Outlook Handbook (bls.gov/ooh), one page per occupation. The third is not there. Use the BLS state table for Oregon (bls.gov/oes/current/oes_or.htm) and find your occupation’s row, or use the Oregon Employment Department’s site, qualityinfo.org, which has the same numbers and is easier to read.

Give the URL where you found each number.

Then two or three sentences: was this what you expected? Did any of it change how you feel about that discipline?

Type your answers into the Moodle submission box: number them 1 to 3 with the URL next to each, then your sentences.

Grading and the AI policy are in the syllabus.
