In-Class Work 1: Who Built This?
We do this live in class. You’ll be placed into a small breakout room for about 20 minutes. I’ll tell you the exact time in class.
Your technology, by room number:
- Room 1: EV fast-charging station
- Room 2: Municipal water treatment plant
- Room 3: Insulin pump
- Room 4: Wildfire surveillance drone
- Room 5: Passenger elevator in a 40-story building
- Room 6: Amusement park roller coaster
- Room 7: Grid-scale battery storage site
Answer two questions:
- Which engineering disciplines had to work on this thing? Please submit a list, one line per discipline, where each line also describes what that discipline did here.
- If it fails in the field and someone gets hurt, which single discipline is most responsible? Defend your pick in one sentence.
Question 2 has no right answer. Argue about it. Pick one and commit.
Before your group returns to the main room, each of you submits the group’s answer. Type it into the Moodle submission box:
- First line: everyone’s full names, separated by commas
- Second line: your technology
- Then the group’s two answers
Grading. Everyone in the group gets the same score. If you do not submit, you get no credit for that session. Grading and the AI policy are in the syllabus.
